Custom Steel Fabrication

Custom Steel Fabrication Done In-Shop

When the part you need doesn't exist, we build it. Matt runs a fully equipped shop in Marshville where custom brackets, frames, guards, wear plates, and structural steel components are built to spec and built to last.

Built From Scratch, Built to Fit

Some jobs can't be solved with a bolt-on part from a catalog. Maybe you need a custom mounting bracket for a piece of equipment, a guard plate fabricated to fit a specific machine, or a structural frame that has to hit exact dimensions. That's what the shop is set up for. Customers bring parts, equipment, or just measurements directly to the Marshville shop, and Matt designs and builds custom steel components from mild steel, high-strength plate, and AR material depending on what the application demands.

Every fabrication job starts with understanding how the finished piece is going to be used. A bracket that looks good on a workbench is useless if it flexes under load or doesn't clear the surrounding components. Fit-up, material selection, weld quality, and finished dimensions all matter - and Matt takes all of it seriously before a single tack weld gets laid down.

Whether you bring in a sketch, a broken original part, or just a description of what you need built, the shop can usually work it out. Drop it off and Matt takes it from there. No need to find a separate fabricator or wait on a national shop chain. Custom steel fabrication is a big part of what sets 704 Diesel apart from shops that only do repairs. Give Matt a call and walk him through what you need.

What We Fabricate In-Shop

From small one-off pieces to larger structural builds, here's a look at the custom steel work that comes through the shop.

Custom Brackets and Mounts

Need a mounting bracket that doesn't exist as a stock part? Matt designs and builds custom brackets to fit your specific equipment, vehicle, or application. Drilled, slotted, and gusseted as needed.

Guards and Skid Plates

Belly guards, rock guards, skid plates, and protective covers fabricated from mild steel or AR plate. Built to fit the machine and protect the components that matter most in rough conditions.

Custom Frames and Structural Steel

Structural frames, equipment skids, trailer components, and support structures built in-shop. Properly fitted and welded with the end loads and real-world stresses in mind.

Wear Plates and Cutting Edges

Fabricated wear plates for high-abrasion surfaces, plus replacement cutting edges for blades and buckets. Hard-facing available to extend service life even further.

Equipment Component Fabrication

Replacement boom tips, hitch plates, cylinder mounts, pin tabs, and other equipment components fabricated to match OEM dimensions or improved to fix a known weak point.

One-Off and Custom Projects

If you've got a project that doesn't fit a standard category, bring it in. Gates, chutes, ramps, livestock equipment, shop fixtures, tooling - if it can be built from steel, it's worth a conversation.

From Idea to Finished Steel

The process is straightforward. Clear communication, honest pricing, and shop work done right the first time.

01

Bring It In or Call Ahead

Call or stop by the shop and walk through the project. Bring the broken original part, your measurements, a sketch, or just a clear description of what you're trying to accomplish. The more detail you have when you come in, the faster the shop can get moving.

02

Review Material and Approach

Matt looks at the project, figures out the best material for the application, and maps out how the piece should be fabricated. If there are options worth discussing, like different plate thickness or gusset placement, he'll walk you through them.

03

Fabrication in the Shop

The work gets done with proper shop equipment: plasma cutting, welding, grinding, drilling, and fitting. Every step is done with the end use in mind so the finished piece fits right and holds up the way it needs to.

04

Pick Up from the Shop

When the project is done, you come back to the shop and pick it up. You'll see the finished work before it leaves so there are no surprises. If coordinating transport back is a concern, just mention it when you drop off and Matt can help figure out the logistics.

Custom Steel Fabrication Questions

Common questions before bringing a custom fab project to the shop.

No. A sketch, a broken original part, or even just a description of the problem is enough to start the conversation. Stop by the shop or call ahead and Matt can help figure out the design approach from there. If you have precise dimensions or engineering drawings, bring those along when you come in - it definitely helps.
Primarily A36 mild steel and A572 high-strength structural steel. For high-wear applications, AR400 and AR500 abrasion-resistant plate are options. If you have a specific material requirement, mention it upfront and Matt can confirm availability.
Yes. If you bring in the broken original, the shop can usually measure it up and fabricate a replacement - sometimes with improvements to address whatever caused the original to fail. This is often faster and cheaper than hunting down an OEM replacement.
The shop handles cleaning, grinding, and rust treatment as part of the fab process. For paint or powder coat finishing, Matt can point you in the right direction locally. Most customers paint their own parts or have a preferred painter they use.
Pricing is based on material cost and estimated shop time. Matt gives you a straight quote before any work starts. No vague estimates that change when you come to pick up. More complex projects may need a look in person before a number can be given.
Absolutely. Farm equipment, hay equipment, livestock handling gear, loader attachments, and ag-related structures are all common projects. If it's made of steel and needs to be repaired or rebuilt, it's worth a call.
